BEST SHOWING YET FOR DOG SHOW

It’s official, the 2009 Chiswick House Gardens Dog Show has been deemed the best show yet!

We estimate that over 1200 visitors enjoyed this year’s show, basking in the sunshine and soaking up the atmosphere. Over 30 stallholders supported us and over 450 dogs were entered into the various classes. The show was opened by Councillor Paul Lynch, the Mayor of Hounslow, accompanied by his border collie, Meg.

A total of 460 class entries were made, the winners being:

Best Puppy under 12 months (dog) No.27
Best Puppy under 12 months (bitch)  a pug (no 139)
Best Youngster 1-2 years (dog) Marly (281)
Best Youngster 1-2 years (bitch) Gracie (229)
Best Rescue  Tess (46)
Handsomest Dog 2-4 years Rudi

Best Young Handler  Hector (410)
Best Trick  Bambi (with Troy)

Best in Show  Piper (224)
Reserve Best in Show  Bridie (395)

Judges included designer Cath Kidston, actor James Dreyfuss, CHGT Project Director Sarah Finch-Crisp and Chiswick butcher Rodney Macken. Best in Show was judged by Anthony Young of the Young Veterinary Partnership, together with show sponsor Derek Fletcher of Edward d’Arc and George Nissen Chairman of Chiswick House Friends. Rings were sponsored for the second year by CJ Hall veterinary surgeons of Acton Lane, and the new team at Southfields Grooming sponsored the programme. Fittingly, Best in Show winner Piper belongs to a regular Parkwatch volunteer.

Over 30 stallholders attended this year’s event, with local businesses such as Whisk Cooking Solutions, Top Hat, Plum Duff, Waitrose, Pampers, Emma Bridgewater, Howard Russell Solicitors, Pot Pourri, Wheelers, Elmwood Fencing, the Duke of Sussex, Annie’s and the Hole in the Wall providing prizes and sponsorship . Over 80 volunteers helped to make the show a success including the 20th Chiswick Scouts. Hounslow Council kindly provided the rosettes. Maggie Campbell-Pedersen kindly helped with recording the event for posterity – these are some of her photographs taken on the day.

So, a resounding thank-you to Sarah and Fiona at the Chiswick House Gardens Trust for their support. All surplus funds raised will go towards dog-related projects within the gardens. We are thrilled that so many people came along and enjoyed the day with us. It is a great community event, accessible to everyone. Visitor and class entry numbers were both well up on last year. It is a vindication of 8 months of planning by the committee and also confirms the importance of Chiswick House Gardens to the dog-walking community.

The 2010 Chiswick House Gardens Dog Show will take place in late September. If you are interested in helping as a volunteer, or in being kept informed of any dog-show related events such as quiz nights between now and then, send us an e-mail to thechowgroup@yahoo.co.uk

Thank you all for coming to this year’s show – see you in 2010
